Description
In 2018, we offered therapeutic support to 560 ladies in southwest Michigan, this year we are hoping to support even more in our community. We provide three types of support options:
1. Club H2O is for teen girls (13-18 years old) who would like to learn more about themselves in a safe group environment focused on setting healthy boundaries, increasing self-esteem and learning healthy coping strategies. Club H2O runs for 6-8 weeks and includes one session per week. Bridgman High, FC Reed Middle, Buchanan High & Middle, Countryside Academy Middle & High School, New Buffalo High & Middle, (outside of county: Paw Paw Middle); River Valley Middle & High; St. Joseph High; Upton Middle; Watervliet Middle & High School and our Center in Stevensville.
2. OASIS is a group for women that provides a safe place for women to learn new skills to help them cope with all of life's challenges. These groups are tailored to fit the participants who attend and meet for 6-8 weeks (1.5 hour sessions). Niles Library; Safe Shelter (Benton Harbor); Well of GRACE Center (Stevensville). We also offer once per month intensive sessions (2-3 hours) at Well of GRACE Ministries, Niles Library, and the Safe Shelter for women.
3. DEWPOINT is for women/teens with eating disorders. We offer support for ladies with anorexia, bulimia and ED nos (Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified) and a separate group for Binge Eating and Food Addiction. Under the Dewpoint programming we also provide a Caregiver's support group and nutritional support services to those who cannot afford it. Our goal is to provide Berrien County with a full-service Eating Disorder center where this type of support is currently lacking with minimal professionals taking on this high risk population. To follow "best practices" these clients need a treatment team including: 1:1 therapy (providing individual and family support); a physician; dietitian; group therapy and care-giver's support. With the addition of 1:1 support in May with the help of SWMC Christian Counseling & Psychological Services is an important step to providing higher level, quality care and reaching this important step in care for Berrien County. SMEDA Lakeshore also meets at WOGM monthly which is a group of doctors, dietitians, therapists, and community members who are passionate about helping individuals with ED/BED.
We work hard to raise money through fundraising, grant writing, and reaching out to donors to assure that our services to not cost anything to our participants.
