Frederick S. Upton Foundation Seeks “BIG IDEA” Program Funding Proposals

"Frederick S. Upton Foundation" logo with a photo of Frederick S. Upton.The Associate Board of the Frederick S. Upton Foundation invites nonprofit organizations who are dreaming big to take the first step in applying for their BIG IDEA Grant by submitting a letter of intent by April 1, 2025. 

The BIG IDEA Grant opportunity aims to fund creative, innovative programs that can significantly and positively impact life in Berrien County. Proposals should demonstrate innovation, vision and a plan for sustainability to ensure long-term benefits for the community. The deadline to submit a letter of intent for proposals is April 1, 2025. 

Each year, the Upton Foundation awards one $50,000 grant and one $25,000 grant to nonprofit organizations serving Berrien County whose program or new idea is making a positive impact in a big way. 

BIG IDEAs are programs that:  
•    Ideally utilize collaborations with multiple agencies to maximize impact and resources
•    Positively transforms the community when the BIG IDEA succeeds 
•    Are innovative
•    Bring new value or impact if the proposal is for a program expansion

This funding opportunity is open to 501(c)3 nonprofit agencies, schools, religious organizations engaged in community work and governmental agencies. Following a review of all submitted letters of intent, Upton Foundation trustees will invite selected organizations to submit a full grant application.  Finalists will be presented to the Upton Board for consideration in July.
