Grant Purpose:
This grant was established by John E. N. and DeDe Howard to support projects or programs for Saint Joseph or Benton Harbor youth. While projects that happen at a Howard facility will be seen favorably, it is not a requirement to receive a grant.
Howard Facilities Include:
John & Dede Howard Family Trail, John & Dede Howard Ice Arena, John E.N. Howard Band Shell, John & Dede Howard Skate Park, John & Dede Howard Auditorium at St. Joseph High School.
Criteria & Examples:
For projects or programs servings students who live in the 49085 ZIP code (Saint Joseph) or 49022 ZIP code (Benton Harbor).
Howard Youth Grant Project Examples:
- A group of St. Joseph High School students do a service project for senior citizens (Notice, this is not at a Howard Facility)
- A nonprofit takes youth from Benton Heights to the Howard Ice Arena for ice skating
- An arts organization provides arts classes to a group of at-risk youth from Benton Harbor or St. Joseph or both
- An agency organizes a group of teens to do a neighborhood cleanup or service project
